description
The Concrete Decarbonisation Accelerator workstream is designed to help accelerate the decarbonisation of concrete across the infrastructure sectors. Concrete is a commonly used material across the infrastructure sectors for multiple purposes (use cases) and its substantial contribution to carbon emissions is well-established.
Through the undertaking of the Concrete Decarbonisation Accelerator, National Highways, in collaboration with the other members of the group will be able to help strengthen and build on the actions and outputs contained with our concrete material roadmap including:
| 1. | The identification of a specific list of recommended changes and actions that, if adopted by individual client organisations together (including National Highways), would better align approaches to concrete decarbonisation and help lead and accelerate the pace of change within the sector; |
| 2. | Establish a demand forecast for concrete withing the Group, rather than relying on supplier forecasts. This will help understanding likely demand and range estimates more clearly and will enable National Highways (and other client organisations) to more easily identify specific changes (behavioural and technical) to accelerate concrete decarbonisation; and |
| 3. | Explore the initial potential for a bespoke carbon offset or inset mechanism that joins together and targets future co-investment in concrete decarbonisation by infrastructure clients to accelerate concrete decarbonisation, with formal government backing. |
