The Scottish Government’s Environment and Forestry Directorate wishes to commission a consultancy to suggest and appraise options for management of Tarbolton Moss, a former landfill site in South Ayrshire.The purpose of this options appraisal is to identify and evaluate strategies to effectively mitigate the environmental impact of the former landfill site at Tarbolton Moss, while maintaining focus on minimising required intervention (a passive management approach, where possible) to ensure the recommended approach(es) are implementable. It will also consider how different strategies facilitate or restrict options for the management of the site in the future.The situation at Tarbolton Landfill requires a holistic intervention that provides a balanced approach to tackling key issues and presents potential options in a framework for consideration by decision-makers. The options framework should include details of outcomes, performance measures, interdependencies and other key factors. This exercise should also re-establish a baseline understanding of the site’s condition, taking into account previous assessments (to avoid duplication) and the current extent of impacts external to the site.
