FCDO Pakistan is designing a new health system strengthening programme (E4H) which aims to support response to Covid-19 including maintenance of essential services during the pandemic and building back better a health system that is resilient to future shocks. It will also aim to reduce fertility; preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths and deaths from infectious diseases more widely in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage.
The programme will aim to do this by supporting the government’s ability to deliver better quality, accessible and equitable health services for to all including the vulnerable groups. There would be also limited technical assistance support at the federal level.
Based on learnings from earlier Provincial Health and Nutrition Programme and subsequent Technical assistance, we anticipate the following broad areas of support:
| 1. | Strengthen health management information systems (including disease surveillance, financial, human resources and supply chain management and routine health information systems). |
| 2. | Strengthen evidence-based decision making and performance accountability. |
.
| 3. | Focus on quality as well as coverage of healthcare. |
| 4. | Improve efficiencies in healthcare delivery. |
| 5. | Enable equitable provision of health services. |
| 6. | Test and scale up innovation. |
