description

The need for the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Standards for Highways (SHW) rewrite was established from a review carried out by National Highways, in collaboration with the Devolved Administrations as part of the RIS1 Protocol Agreement. The objectives are:

  • Enhance content, usability, and structure
  • Increase the applicability to modern forms of contracts and construction techniques
  • Promote decarbonisation and digital readiness of the DMRB Documents
  • Ensure the new DMRB documents are aligned with the associated Future SHW documents

The Task is for the provision of specialist consultants on DMRB and Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW) who can:

  1. undertake updates comprising prioritised changes; as Category A and B.
  1. produce the required documentation to support the relevant category of change
  1. deliver the updates through the Technical Standard Committee (TSC) process and Collaborative Authoring Review (CARs) platform

The consultants shall have extensive capability in the above and knowledge of pavement engineering.

The Task involves:

  • Online document drafting/authoring
  • Provision of advice on aspects connected with this work
  • Completion of assessments to support the TSC process
  • Liaison with Client's specialists (including Technical Authors for the other parts of the specification and interdependencies within documents owned by other disciplines) and other Suppliers
  • Planning for and supporting Technical Authors engagement at pavement TSC meetings
  • Supporting informing industry and the supply chain
  • Advising on relevant legislation such as the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and Construction Products Regulations
