description
The A4 Slough Mass Rapid Transit (SMaRT) scheme is a continuation of improvements being made by Slough Borough Council to increase the level of accessibility to, from and around the town for residents, employees and visitors and consists of:
| • | A combination of Highway infrastructure measures (along the A4) aimed at delivering journey time and reliability performance of bus services while also improving efficiency of operation of the highway network |
| • | Complementary improvements to bus service provision facilitated by the infrastructure improvements to be implemented |
The A332 will be widened, and pinch points will be removed, in order to reduce congestion. This will benefit businesses, commuters, and visitors, as it will improve journey time reliability. Access improvements for pedestrians will be implemented, as will new infrastructure for buses and cyclists, ensuring that the roads will be safer to use. Lastly, improving the A332 will improve the route into the town centre and will encourage businesses and retail developments to set up there. This will encourage investment in the town, which in turn will contribute to economic growth and regeneration.
The A355 is a scheme to improve traffic flow on the strategic north-south A355 route between the M4, Slough Trading Estate and the M40 and to enhance access to Slough town centre. The scheme involves the remodelling of the Copthorne roundabout, signal and junction upgrades and selected road widening.
