description

Historic England is seeking an experienced organisation to implement surveys for residents associated with places of worship, as part of a broader contingent valuation study conducted by Historic England. The aim of the study is to understand and quantify public's perceptions towards places of worship. The organisation is expected to survey a representative sample from an area designated by Historic England, with a requisite of at least 2000 respondents. Historic England (HE) is the public body that helps people care for, enjoy, and celebrate England's historic environment. The organisation plays a pivotal role in championing the broader value of heritage to society. In line with this mission, Historic England aims to quantify the perceived public value of preserving historic places of worship. To achieve this, a contingent valuation study has been designed. The contingent valuation method (CVM) is used to estimate economic values for all kinds of ecosystem and environmental services. CVM involves directly asking people, in a survey, how much they would be willing to pay to repair and maintain historic places of worship. The results of the survey are expected to be instrumental in guiding policy decisions, resource allocation, and community engagement strategies related to the preservation of historic places of worship. This valuation technique is in line with HM Treasury guidance, which emphasizes the importance of quantifying the public value of non-market goods, such as heritage.
