description

The Department for Transport is looking to commission a research project on the production of biofuels from Used Cooking Oil (UCO), and the potential for fraud and indirect impacts from this.

Concerns regarding the sustainability and traceability of UCO have been raised in a variety of forums. However, despite the significance of UCO as a feedstock and the concerns raised, the evidence base remains relatively shallow about the magnitude, likelihood, and impact of the potential risks and issues.

The research is intended to address this research gap, going beyond a literature review and preferably taking a mixed-methods approach. The research should address the potential diversionary and indirect impacts of UCO demand and the risk of fraud in the supply chain. Based on these findings, the research should also identify key points of risk in the supply chain as well as mitigation opportunities.
