The University is pleased to invite detailed expressions of interest for the provision of the design and construction of the new build and potential refurbishment works on the John Dalton site for the Manchester Metropolitan University Science & Engineering faculty.
The overall works are envisaged to include the following:
- Potential demolition of the existing John Dalton West Building (circa 3,000sq.m) and service diversions.
- The construction of a new-build facility of circa 14,000sq.m including all substructures, superstructures, fixed and loose fixtures and fittings and equipment, mechanical and electrical services, drainage, external works and external services.
- Physical links into the existing John Dalton Tower at multiple levels. This will comprise of the following approximate proportions of internal spaces:
Office space 42% Laboratories 12% General teaching 5% Self-directed and social learning 6% circulation and plant 35%
- The adjacent public realm works around new build element.
- Potential refurbishment / remodelling / minor interventions / re-occupation of the existing spaces within the existing John Dalton buildings (circa 8,000sq.m), and including the installation of the fixed and loose fixtures and fittings and equipment.
- The demolition of the existing John Dalton East Building (Circa 15,000sq.m), and public realm work / landscaping treatment to the area.
It is envisaged the construction of the new build will begin by no later than 06 April 2021 with the new facility being operational by no later than 16 March 2023, and the refurbishment / remodelling / minor intervention of the existing buildings will begin by no later than 26 January 2022 and be completed by no later than 11 August 2023. The remaining demolition works to John Dalton East and related landscaping works will be completed by 02 December 2024.
