description
National Highways "the Client" is seeking to set up a contract for the provision of technical service to undertake the review and update of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) with Drainage content.
The DMRB review and update is required to align the DMRB with the new MCHW to ensure a complete set of technical and contract requirements. The DMRB update is required to incorporate the design requirements and guidance which currently sit within the current MCHW and address all areas where the new MCHW requires a design decision / input.
The updated DMRB documents will be required to demonstrate a clear and consistent flow through of requirements from the DMRB to the relevant MCHW clauses and/or Work Specific Requirements (WSRs).
Opportunities to deliver more efficient and effective practices in design, construction, maintenance and operations leading to reduced costs and better value need to be considered through considering challenges to the existing (and new) documents for alternative options.
Innovative SuDS designs are continually being developed, so these documents are to be reviewed to ensure that current best practice, as appropriate for the SRN, is reflected.
A new DMRB document for Chambers is required to carry content removed from the MCHW.
The documents produced and process followed (including accompanying governance documentation) will be subject to the National Highways' Manual for Development of Documents (MDD).
There are also a number of corrections, amendments and additions required to the suite of existing DMRB documents.
Drafting of the DMRB Drainage documents shall be completed and submitted to Technical Standards Committee (TSC) for consultation start no later than January 2024. TSC consultation shall be completed by August 2024 with final documents ready for publication.
