description

The overall objective of this task is to reduce vehicle stops on the Strategic Road Network (SRN), mitigate their impact where they do occur and reduce unsafe behaviours while stopped on the network. This will be done through targeted guidance and advice, as well as using data to provide insights and recommendations. This work package aims to communicate and enhance National Highways' disabled and vulnerable customer breakdown guidance, to ensure customers with additional needs receive clear, accessible and actionable advice when experiencing a breakdown on the SRN. This will be done by strengthening existing links with members of the Roads for All Forum.

The initial version of the guidance (due for publication in Spring 2026) aims to gather existing advice on journey preparation and breakdown response for disabled and vulnerable customers and present it on a dedicated web page.

This work package will promote the guidance page and also seek to develop it further, improving its accessibility and usability as well as expanding it to provide more information where appropriate, while incorporating stakeholder insight and aligning with National Highways' Access & Inclusion Delivery Plan.
