Environmental audits

HCC wishes to evaluate key elements of sustainability on farms that are part of their Hill Ram scheme including an audit of greenhouse gas emissions and a wider environmental audit that includes biodiversity.The project will involve the following;• Working with a selection (between 15-20) of the Hill ram Scheme (HRS) farmers• Using tried and tested audit methods, set baselines for environmental footprints including biodiversity and carbon of the hill farms involved in the HRS• Use the results of the audit to make recommendations of improvements to the environmental impact including biodiversity and carbon footprints.• Use the results to highlight the positive environmental impacts of grazed sheep systems in the hills and uplands• Encouraging ‘buy in’ of these audits from the participating farms and report to farmers their farm baselines and recommendations.This project activity will run until the end of January 2023.
