description
The Scottish Government has a Marine Litter Strategy which was refreshed in 2022 and is a key deliverable of the UK Marine Strategy, Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and Scottish Circular Economy ambitions. We published new actions which focused on the most problematic types of marine litter including fishing gear and also supporting litter removal. To develop policy that will specifically support the identification of marine debris from static gear, the Scottish Government is commissioning a desk-based study to better understand the use of tags and tagging programmes across the UK and abroad where relevant.
