description

The Scottish Government’s Cleaner Air for Scotland 2 strategy was published in July 2021, setting out a series of actions intended to deliver further air quality improvements over the period to 2026. Reducing both human health and environmental impacts of key air pollutants is the overarching aim of the strategy and this project will contribute to the evidence base being used to develop policy interventions to achieve this aim.

The Scottish Government wishes to commission the following

review the available evidence on general human health and environmental impacts of NMVOCs – it is envisaged that this will take the form of a literature review and will not require any new research or other work;

review the specific contribution to total NMVOC emissions in Scotland from malt whisky maturation – this will draw on currently available information sources, such as the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory;

provide an assessment of whether this contribution is likely to be sufficient to generate significant health or environmental impacts; and

suggest any potential mitigation strategies for controlling these emissions.
