description
The London Borough of Hillingdon is seeking a sole provider for the supply & delivery of various waste & recycling bags.
The Waste Services division collects waste weekly from over 100,000 domestic properties and 2,500 trade premises. It operates the Council's mechanical and traditional sweeping services seven days a week and is also responsible for the removal of graffiti, fly tipped waste, specialist waste clearance, removal of hazardous and offensive waste and also provides an emergency callout service for waste that requires urgent removal and disposal.
The current household recycling service is as follows;
| • | Dry recyclables, garden waste, textile and food waste - weekly collections |
| • | Specialist collection service for larger bulky household items- as and when required |
The London Borough of Hillingdon is firmly committed to the concept of recycling and prides itself on achieving a very high recycling rate
For the first quarter of 2014-2015 overall recycling rates were 50.7%, up from 45.5% for the same quarter in 2013-2014.
In 2013, the Council switched from fortnightly to weekly garden waste collections in July, introduced textiles in August and introduced an opt-in weekly food recycling in October which contributed to the above increase.
Between April-June 2013, there was also a 1.6% rise in the clear sack dry recycling rates.
Each week the authority collects from households: residual waste in black sacks; recyclables in clear sacks; garden waste in bags and food waste from small bins.
