description

The National Innovation Centre for Rural Enterprise (NICRE) is an exciting new research, innovation and knowledge exchange initiative funded by Research England and founding University Partners, with in-kind support from many public, business and third sector organisations. NICRE is committed to informing policy, and improving existing practice, in tackling society's grand challenges by fostering the innovation and resilience of rural enterprise and unlocking the potential in rural areas across the UK. Our initial programmes of work will focus substantially on England, though we will be working to extend engagement with Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish researchers, as well as associated governments and rural communities, with the aim to extend the lifetime of NICRE to become active, accessible and influential across the UK.

Led by Professor Jeremy Phillipson from Newcastle University's Centre for Rural Economy and Matthew Gorton from the Business School, NICRE is a three-year integrated research, innovation and knowledge-exchange initiative designed in collaboration with the Enterprise Research Centre at Warwick Business School, and Countryside and Community Research Institute at the University of Gloucestershire and Royal Agricultural University.
