Sellafield Ltd's Engineering and Maintenance have invested significant time and resource into developing an Engineering Centre of Excellence (CoE) situated at the Leconfield Industrial Estate in Cleator Moor. The facility's purpose is to limit the constraints attributed to the licenced nuclear site and to enable closer working relationships with its supply chain partners. One of the Engineering CoE's prominent departments is Engineering Development Solutions (EDS). EDS's purpose is to serve as a problem-solving hub for the Sellafield site and associated value streams while professionally developing participants through its Engineering sprint projects. EDS run six-week rapid prototyping projects engaging people looking to develop themselves whilst innovating on the site's challenges. To supplement this problem-solving approach, EDS requires the expertise of businesses focussing on developing the soft skills of those in technical backgrounds to create a well-rounded workforce.
