In summary the Coronial Service require the following from the Mortuary and Post Mortem service:

•facilities for the secure, monitored and supervised receipt, storage and release of bodies under the jurisdiction of HM Senior Coroner; •facilities to perform a post mortem;

•to allow Pathologists to undertake post mortem/autopsies;

•to allow Forensic Pathologists to undertake post mortem/autopsies in cases where criminal charges may arise;

•for the identification and viewing of bodies by relatives and friends, taking into account their emotional and cultural needs; •for 24/7 access and cover required;

•maintenance of adequate contact between HM Senior Coroner's office and staff;

•to provide suitably qualified Pathologist and/or support staff to conduct post mortems. All Pathologists to be approved by HM Senior Coroner; •post mortem reports to HM Senior Coroner, and

•monthly statistics and performance indicators to the Council
