description

To conduct important structural repairs to the old ‘Police Lodge’, a small section of wall and one gate pier that forms a part of the main entrance to Black Rod’s Garden from Abingdon Street (referred to collectively as “Black Rod’s Entrance”), as identified as needing repairs with the installation of a temporary gate. It will encompass Inserting a reinforced concrete lintel below the lodge, dismantling the gate pier, inserting piles beneath gate pier and wall, rebuilding the gate pier and repairing and reinstating both gates. The work must be sympathetic to the original structure and will encroach on a public pathway, so this must be carefully managed and there will be a watching brief residing over the works. There will need to be constant engagement with Police Operations due to the need to make people detour off the pavement, and barriers will have to be manned for removal for HGVs and other oversized vehicles
