description
A Subcontractor is required to undertake the transportation of 1236 precast concrete bridge slabs from the Kingsbury Precast Yard (Marston, Sutton Coldfield B76 0DF) to the designated laydown areas within the Sub-lot 4 area (N 13, G21, Curzon St, Birmingham B4 7X).
The total volume of 1236 slabs are comprised of three main types with associated weights:
| • | Small Slabs (647 units): 3.35m x 3.60m and approximate weight of 6.5t |
| • | Major Slabs (309 units): 3.35m x 6.5m and approximate weight of 15t |
| • | Double Slabs (280 units): 8.2m x 3.4m and approximate weight of 19t |
The package requires the Subcontractor to provide all necessary labour, plant, and temporary works for the delivery service, specifically: drivers, trucks, and trailers suitable for oversized loads. The Subcontractor shall be responsible for obtaining all necessary transport permits (including abnormal load notification), ensuring proper access, and lashing in accordance with the specifications and drawings of the slabs provided by the Contractor (BBV), and executing the lashing of the loads.
BBV will provide its own escort vehicle for the movements. Approximately 20 slabs will require a Police escort due to having a width greater than 4 meters; the Subcontractor must ensure that the vehicles provided are suitable to meet the requirements for such escorts.
The commencement date for delivery is targeted for March 2026, and the service is expected to run until June 2028. It is strongly suggested that a pre-tender meeting is undertaken with interested Bidders to ensure that all technical and logistical requirements are fully understood and align with BBV's overall program needs.
Additional information: Suppliers should be aware of the scale of this project and should assess their internal capabilities to be able to carry out the intended scope of work, prior to completing this expression of interest (EOI).
