description

This contract is to appoint a single contractor to undertake consolidation and restoration work on the largest mineshop in the North Pennines, at Carrshield mine in the West Allen Valley, Northumberland. The project is part of the larger, HLF funded, Allen Valleys Landscape Partnership scheme. Barney Craig mineshop is a scheduled Ancient Monuments on the Heritage at Risk register

The work is to be carried out on behalf of the Durham County Council, as part of the Allen Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme which is an initiative of the North Pennines AONB Partnership. The scheme is subject to funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and LEADER.

The Allen Valleys Landscape Partnership scheme is a community-centred scheme and as such we aim for a lot of involvement from local people. The consolidation works will, therefore, have to include open days and training events with the public.

This procurement is issued under an Open Procedure.

The expected start date for the proposed contract is September 1st 2016. The expected end date for the proposed contract is June 1st 2017 this is subject to LEADER application. The proposed contract is to be let with an option to extend for a further 4 months from the actual end date.

Site visits should be made, but no prior permission is required. Contractors should take all necessary precautions, including use of PPE, especially hard hats on the site visit. Contractors entering the structure do so at their own risk.
