In summary this tender is for a single robotic arm mounted on a linear track, which will be used for contacting and non-contacting inspection of railway wheelsets, as described in the technical specification section – Part 2, Section 1.
This is to be funded by the HiTech Rail project which is an ERDF-funded initiative aimed at enabling West Midlands SMEs to develop innovative rail products. The project is based in the Centre for Railway Research and Education at the University of Birmingham.
