Community Ophthalmology

The service for NHS Redditch and Bromsgrove CCG will operate a specialist-led Service offering triage and treatment of Ophthalmology conditions. Patients will be referred into the service from health professionals, typically the patient’s own GP or Optometrist.

The principle aim of the service is to establish a local Consultant-led Community Ophthalmology service for the triage, diagnosis, management and treatment of Ophthalmology problems which complements and works in partnership with existing primary and secondary care Ophthalmology services.

The Service will deliver a range of services traditionally delivered in a secondary care setting, but these do not include the delivery of those services which form part of the essential and additional primary care services in the General Medical Services (GMS) contract. The Service will not include retinal screening. However, referral protocols will be required to be developed for those patients identified as requiring referral into the Retinal Screening Programme.

The Commissioners reserve the right to not proceed with bids above the indicated budget.

The contract start date will be subject to the winning bidders mobilisation plan.
