description
The open space improvement area is bound by Goscote Lane (east), Harden Road (south), Wryley and Essington Canal and Shakespeare Crescent (west) and the rear of existing properties on Hardy Road (north). The land is designated green belt and is intersected east to west by the canal; with the land to the north known locally as the Lea (circa 6ha) and the southern area as Swannies Field (circa 13ha). These open spaces and the canal corridor (i.e. the canal and adjoining towpath) are owned and managed by the Council and the Canal & River Trust (C&RT) respectively.
Following consultation on enhancement priorities and future maintenance requirements, the Council have prepared a detailed open space masterplan for the improvement area. The design includes improvements to entrances, paths, towpaths, boundary treatment and the installation of new outdoor recreational equipment, such as play areas, skate park, football pitch, trim trail, multi-use games area and fishing platforms
The Council is seeking to procure a landscape contractor(s) to implement the open space improvements as set out in the Specification (subject to the Council obtaining planning consent where required). The contract will be awarded in the form of two separate lots (Lot 1: The Lea, and Lot 2: Swannies Field and Canal Corridor) or a combined Lot and bidders can submit for one or both lots.
