Ministry of Justice Gym Equipment Purchase and/or Rental

The Ministry of Justice delivers sports and physical activity through specialist PE staff supporting and promoting the lasting benefits of physical education to offenders. PE can make a major contribution to the physical, mental and social well-being of prisoners. Equipment is used primarily by offenders but also by prison staff.

Current spend is at approximately £1m per annum on larger gym equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes and cross trainers with the current contract running until March 2017. The current contract is for re-manufactured gym equipment though I am keen to explore all options prior to tendering to ensure we are getting the best value which may include rental options or a mixture of rental and purchase. There is also an equipment maintenance aspect to this contract.

Additional information: At this stage I would be looking at expressions of interest and initial engagement with suppliers to establish what options are available. This may potentially include a benchmarking of pricing so that current and available arrangements may be compared.
