description

The Universal Youth Support Service in Royal Greenwich will provide a range of well-managed, exciting and challenging positive youth activities for young people aged 10- 21 (up to 25 years for young people with special educational needs and disabilities) with a primary focus on 13 - 19 years. The Universal Youth Support service will include open access, outdoor activities and effectively targeted and suitable provision for vulnerable and hard to reach groups including disabled young people with challenging and complex needs.

The Universal Youth Support service enables the Royal Borough of Greenwich to meet its statutory duty to secure and promote young people’s access to educational and recreational leisure time activities under Section 507B of the Education Act 1996, introduced through Section 6 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006. The programme will be informed by the views of local young people and include:

  • Educational leisure time activities eg learning opportunities through residential, weekend or holiday- time activities and volunteering activity which improve young people’s personal and social development and

delivered using youth work methods and approaches.

  • Recreational leisure time activities such as sports, informal physical activities, cultural activities including music, performing and visual arts.

The requirement is split into 2 lots:

Lot 1 is for one contract for year-round universal youth provision covering four geographical areas, through

direct delivery and sub-contracting arrangements. This will include a proportion of ‘high support’ provision for young people with complex or challenging needs and offer a youth work curriculum to meet the needs of young people in the Royal Greenwich young people.

Lot 2 is one contract to deliver a Summer Programme of short courses, through direct delivery and subcontracting arrangements for young people in the Royal borough of Greenwich including those requiring ‘high support’ due to their complex or challenging needs.
