description
Ofcom has a statutory duty to promote media literacy under Section 11 of the Communication Act 2003. In an online environment where the possibility of external regulatory oversight of individual pieces of content diminishes, the need for a media-literate public increases. We are commissioning this work to inform our thinking across our MSOM programme, as well as provide evidence for the real-life context in which platform design operates. It will enable us to better understand what good media literacy is amongst the 8-12 year-olds age group, and to shift the conversation around media literacy from prevention of harms to include what it means to flourish online.
