description

The Department for Transport intends setting up a contract for provision of technical consultancy services to fill the knowledge gaps in traffic noise enforcement technology. The research will develop recommendations on how to enable more effective roadside noise enforcement which could in turn discourage drivers from creating excessive vehicle noise.

The fundamental objective underlying this research programme is to reduce the prevalence of excessive vehicle noise by providing local authorities, the police and other local partners with effective enforcement tools capable of identifying excessively noisy vehicles and capturing sufficient evidence to support successful prosecution of offenders.
