description

Stonehenge is one of the most iconic and well known prehistoric monuments in the world. It is part of a World Heritage Site (WHS) that was inscribed in 1986 in two parts – Stonehenge and Avebury. It has been given World Heritage Site status because it is internationally important for its complexes of outstanding prehistoric monuments. Stonehenge is English Heritage’s most visited site.

Managed Open Access at Stonehenge takes place every year, allowing people the opportunity to celebrate the summer and Winter Solstice. Summer Solstice normally occurs over the night of the 20th June/morning of 21st June and winter is the morning of 21st or 22nd December. Winter Solstice normally occurs between 20th and 22nd December with Open Access being held on the morning only. In 2015 there were around 7,000 visitors to Winter Solstice. Summer Solstice attracts the highest attendances which vary from 23,000 (2015) to 36,000 (2014).

The event area is spread over 3 locations which are around 2km apart: the Solstice Car Park, the Visitor Centre Car Park and the Monument Field itself.

English Heritage seeks an Event Management Co-ordinator to help manage the smooth running of the Solstice. To express interest in this opportunity and download the tender documentation, please visit https://in-tendhost.co.uk/english-heritage/aspx/Home
