description

The School of Environmental Science has a facility within Building 5 on the UEA campus, which houses underwater autonomous vehicles. These vehicles, known as Seagliders, are stored, serviced, maintained and prepared for dispatch on missions throughout the world, where they collect data from the seas and oceans, which is transmitted back to the UEA.

Building 5 forms part of the UEA's long-term refurbishment project relating to the Lasdun Wall, and as such is required to be vacated, with all users being relocated elsewhere. This project is required in order to relocate the Seagliders team and all their equipment to a vacant portion of Building 54 (also known as the Biomass Building), which was formerly used to store woodchip.
