description

This is a combined project with two main tasks, aimed at investigating the following:

1.the performance of safety barrier systems when impacted by vehicles not currently included within the scope of the European testing standard for road restraint systems (EN 1317). This part of the project will include testing with electric and hybrid vehicles, a Multi-purpose Utility Vehicle (MPV), a Medium Goods Vehicle (MGV) and a large saloon car.
2.the effect of degradation and impact damage on safety barrier performance. This part of the project will use virtual testing (validated computer simulation) and a small number of full-scale impact tests to investigate the performance of degraded and damaged safety barrier to assist in the prioritisation of future maintenance and repair activities.
