NEL CSU on behalf of NHS England London Region Dental Team - Restorative Dental Project

A Restorative Dentistry Commissioning Working Group (NHS England, London Region) was formed in September 2015. This project group is developing a commissioning proposal for the future procurement of intermediate endodontic and periodontal services across London, taking into account the findings from a public health needs assessment (1). Findings from the needs assessment include: a lack of equity of service provision; a clear needs-provision gap for endodontic and periodontal services in some parts of London; and long waiting times for assessment for specialist level care in primary care.

A draft national guide for commissioning specialist restorative dentistry is currently out for consultation. Although in draft form, this guide is the approved reference point with regard to the future commissioning of dental services. It includes illustrative patient journeys and complexity assessments which the London Region Dental Commissioners will consider, along with the needs assessment findings, when developing the commissioning proposal and service specifications.

A series of documents have been shared in Draft format with the Local Professional Network (LPN) Steering group. In the interest of transparency, we would like to make all these documents available to any interested bidders.
