Respite Provision in the Community

Cornwall Council is undertaking a soft market test to gain an insight into the level of interest in the market for the provision of overnight respite services in the community.

Do you have vacant beds that could work as respite beds?

This market assessment is not part of any procurement process. It is purely investigatory in nature, although it may be used to assist in developing this service. Participation of this soft market assessment will not prejudice suppliers participating in any future procurement.

Additional information: Background

Cornwall Council operates four respite services that provide up to 50 respite bed spaces. The locations are Penzance, Truro and St Austell. In addition to these places, Cornwall Council has two block contract arrangements to provide 8 respite placements across Cornwall for people with a disability.

The respite services should complement existing Cornwall Council provision.

Respite provision in the context of this soft market test includes provision to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. This can include day provision either the day of or the day after the respite night.

The Council is looking for a provider/s who will work with them to develop quality services that offer flexibility, are responsive to people’s need and allows the Council to provide services for people with an eligible social care need.

These services are generic to include Learning Disability and people with Physical Disabilities – the potential business value is estimated at £500,000 per annum.
