Installation of play area at Wensum View in Norwich

Norwich City Council is looking to work with a contractor to design and build a new play area at Wensum View (off Dereham Road) in Norwich. The site is an area of open space, mainly grass with existing swings, located off a main road. There are pollarded Lime trees along the eastern boundary and a school playing field to the west. The area is popular with dog walkers and is used by families for ball games and there is a community garden group but more play equipment will add to its attraction and serve an area without an alternative play area.

This contract is being offered on a ‘Design and Build’ basis.

The objectives for the project are as follows:

Installation of bow top style fencing and two self-closing gates around the new play equipment, include an area of green space within the play area and one additional gate that allows access for maintenance staff and their machinery.

Installation of play equipment to meet our essential brief which has been drawn up following consultation with the local community. This should include some play activities which are accessible to children with limited mobility.

The removal of an old concrete pad from beneath the existing swings as well as other concrete pads present on the site.

Installation of a safety surface appropriate to the equipment installed that provides sufficient protection under EN11776).

Allowance of sufficient space in the design for the addition of further equipment should funding become available in the future.
