NHS Arden & Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit (NHS Arden & GEM CSU) on behalf of NHS England Central are inviting prospective providers to participate in a Webex session on NHS England's requirement for a web application service for the self-management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The Webex session will be held on 26th September at 3.00 - 4.00pm. Further details on how to participate in the Webex including dial in details will be provided via the e-tendering portal to those providers who have expressed an interest.

Web-based applications for the self-management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is one of 6 themes included in the Innovation and Technology Tariff (ITT) for 2017-19.

Aims and objectives of the product:

  • Support people with severe or very severe COPD to self-manage through a web-based application by providing online pulmonary rehabilitation support in line with NICE guidelines.
  • Solutions must have a proven evidence base demonstrating they are as effective as face to face pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Be consistent with consensus definitions of what constitutes a COPD self-management intervention, which includes:
  • ogoals of motivating, engaging and supporting the patients to positively adapt their health behaviour(s);
  • ohelping patients develop skills to better manage their disease;
  • oiterative interactions between patients and competent, patient-centred healthcare professionals

Population covered

  • Patients with severe or very severe disease managed by community or secondary care
  • Patient with COPD on an acute care pathway managed by community or secondary care
  • Patients discharged from hospital as part of the COPD discharge bundle (which can be linked to the Best Practice Tariff)

Additional information: The aim of the expression of interest exercise is to;

  1. Support NHS England's informed decision making on the potential options on the future commissioning of these supplies.
  2. To help refine the commissioning and procurement approach and;
  3. To gauge the level of interest from the market of capable providers with capacity to deliver the supplies illustrated above.
