KBS Maritime - Introduction

KBS Maritime is a joint venture between KBR and BAE Systems, bringing together two global players with a rich heritage of delivering excellence, innovation and reliability. The joint venture will combine the expertise of KBR as a global leader in infrastructure asset management and services with BAE Systems' experience and capability within Portsmouth Naval Base. KBS Maritime are delivering an ambitious, modern and enduring change to the Portsmouth Naval base infrastructure, securing investment in the local community and ensuring fit-for-purpose, world-leading fleet support for the Royal Navy and the UK in the decades ahead.

Project Opportunity

KBS Maritime have a requirement for cofferdams that need to be installed on the outer-stops at three locations: B-Lock east, B-Lock west, and A-Lock east which will serve as enabling works for planned permanent works to both locks. A 'stoplog' type of cofferdam is the likely preference, which will comprise of a number of modular sections that span the entrance width of the lock, and will fit vertically on top of one another. These would be installed by cranes, and the size of the modules would therefore be determined by crane lifting and ground loading capacity. The lower module for each location will be unique due to the variation in lock entrance profiles, but the upper modules are likely to be interchangeable. The modules will consist of a truss type construction because of the spanning nature of the structure, and rubber seals would be provided at the connections between the modules and the civil works meeting faces at the lock floor and walls. Budget: circa £5m-£8m
