description

The research will focus on:

  • A literature review of previous research and design requirements for the use of such measures on routes comparable to all-purpose trunk roads in the England, along with a review of the safety benefits and impacts.
  • Review and assessment of the potential safety benefits and impacts of using such measures on all-purpose trunk roads in England.
  • Review and assessment of any potential impacts that such measures may have on cross-section design requirements, drainage and pavement integrity.
  • Assessment of the potential impact that using such measures may have on pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists via an off-road trial.

The research will include recommendations which will inform the development of a future communication to the business on the use of such measures and will also inform the future update of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) Requirements and Advice Documents (RADs).
