description
The Social Mobility Commission (SMC) monitors progress towards improving social mobility in the UK and promotes social mobility in England. It is an independent statutory body created by an Act of Parliament and is sponsored by the Department for Education.
As part of its remit the Commission undertakes an annual State of the Nation report each year. This report is part of the Commission's statutory duty to monitor UK-wide progress on social mobility each year, and will be published by 31st March 2021. The production and synthesis of key statistics related to social mobility is a core part of this report, in order to track progress on both social mobility outcomes (such as the make-up of the labour force by socioeconomic background), and drivers of social mobility across the life-course (such as educational attainment and child poverty).
The Commission is seeking a supplier to provide new and insightful analysis on key statistics for inclusion in our State of the Nation report this year. The successful supplier will collate these statistics and work with our internal report team to interpret and build a narrative around these figures for this year's report.
This year we want to put more focus on the synthesis, analysis and critique of social mobility in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland than we have in previous reports. The report will therefore be structured with an opening chapter summarising the key social mobility statistics that you produce, followed by four chapters each covering social mobility policy in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in detail. The insights from your statistical analysis will form the first chapter, and further relevant analyses covering the four nations will be included in the subsequent country-specific chapters.
