description
This project will verify the UK’s greenhouse gas (GHG) Inventory by providing high-quality estimates of UK GHG emissions based on observed concentrations of GHGs over the UK. This will involve the management of gas monitoring stations in the UK, the identification of baseline gas concentrations, the modelling of GHG emissions, uncertainty analysis and comparisons with the UK’s official GHG Inventory.
Lot 3: is to produce a comparison between GHG emissions estimates from modelling of observed atmospheric concentrations and the UK’s national GHG inventory. This project will need to provide a ‘baseline’ of background GHG concentrations in the atmosphere over the Northern Hemisphere in order to identify pollution events. Once baseline concentrations have been identified, the project should apply a method to estimate UK GHG emissions from the observed atmospheric data. Finally, annual project reports should be produced that set out, by gas, a comparison between the modelled emission figures and the UK’s latest national GHG inventory from 1990 to the latest year available. A priority for this Lot is to advance analysis that may provide clarification on the reasons for differences between the UK's national GHG inventory and the results of the verification. Bidders should also provide information on the techniques that will be used to estimate uncertainties in the interpretation process.
