description
Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) is a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and responsible for planning and delivering the geological disposal of higher level radioactive waste in the UK.
A Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) will be a significant piece of UK infrastructure. Developing, constructing and operating a facility is one of the most important environmental projects of our generation. It is the safe and long term solution for the disposal of the UK's higher activity radioactive waste. Our work to develop a GDF will be the first community consent based process for a major infrastructure project in the UK. RWM will work in partnership to meet the needs of the communities which consent to work with us. We will invest up to £1m per year with each community which forms a partnership with us. The funding can be invested in projects which: promote economic development, job and skills; improve the environment and cultural heritage; or enhance local wellbeing.
It is our intention to hold a call for competition to source a supplier to administer community investment grant funding on our behalf across England and Wales. Our current business planning assumptions are that we will have a need to deploy around £15m of grant funding over the next 5 years. This is an opportunity for a supplier to help RWM deliver important benefits to communities from the start of a programme that could run for over a hundred years.
To help us implement community investment in an effective, open and transparent manner we are currently undertaking some pre-market engagement. We would be very grateful if you could spare time to assist us by reviewing our specification and supporting documents and providing us with your feedback.
We would welcome any feedback, through meetings, video conference, telephone or written response.
Please reply to lindsey.bettison@nda.gov.uk to receive our specification and supporting documentation (sent in strictest confidence), and arrange a mutually convenient time and location to discuss your response to our requirements.
