Future skills projections and analysis - review and assessment of leading and emerging methodologies

The Unit for Future Skills (UFS) is an analytical and research unit within the Department for Education. It has been set up to improve the quality of jobs and skills data, working across government to make it available and more accessible to policy makers, stakeholders, and the general public.

Skills and training decisions need to consider not only the current skills needs, but future developments. However, analysis of future skills needs is carried out with varying levels of coordination and quality depending on the area of the economy and the body carrying out that analysis.

The aim of this project is to review and assess leading and emerging methodologies for analysis of future skills needs. This will help prepare the UFS to become a centre of expertise on future skills supporting other actors (such as employers) to carry-out more robust and reliable analysis.
