description

Following the success of the completed 60mph speed trials, Highways England has included the aim in this year's customer service plan "Connecting our customers" for 75% of all major schemes on motorways to be operating 60mph speed limits by 2022.

This is 1 tender for 2 Work Packages. Highways England will award 1 contract.

Work Package 1 - to continue with regular data analysis and monitoring to determine if the expected benefits of operating 60mph speed limits in roadworks are being realised in line with the expected safety tolerance. It is essential that the methodology remains identical and consistent with the current monitoring in place - the SPaTS contract '1-918 60mph Long Term Monitoring' delivered by AJJV.

Work Package 2 - to review and update the existing hazard assessment guidance for 'Implementing the highest safe speed in roadworks'', including the hazard log and the GG 104 risk assessment for the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) Standard to ensure they remain live documents.

Both tasks support the wider adoption of 60mph speed limits in roadworks and will determine if the expected benefits of operating 60mph speed limits in roadworks are being realised in line with the expected safety tolerance.
