Public Health England (PHE) Culture Collections (ECACC) produce cryopreserved cell lines and products for use in research and academic laboratories, and consequently use large quantities of Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS) in the process. As the majority of cells are supplied to laboratories worldwide, they need to comply with the regulations covering the import of biological material into each country. Consequently this necessitates that the FBS is sourced and collected from zone (or area) one countries i.e. USA, Australia or New Zealand. This specification is for the supply of zone one FBS to be used in General Collection cell production and banking, and any other projects requiring the use of zone one serum.
