Route Strategies WP2 - Route Strategy Delivery - 4) South West 3 Routes

Highways England is due commence its third round of route strategies in summer 2021 to deliver against its licence requirement. The licence requires Highways England to periodically prepare and publish route strategies covering the whole of the network, to develop and maintain an appropriate evidence base on the state and performance of the network, and issues affecting these, to inform the setting of Road Investment Strategies and ongoing management and development of the network when planning and carrying out its activities.

Highways England has built upon lessons learnt from previous route strategies to develop an approach that informs the long-term planning of the strategic road network based on detailed engagement and robust intelligence. The six objectives of the route strategy approach are:

• Forward looking.
• Widely supported.
• Integrated and collaborative.
• Broad.
• Dynamic.
• Easy to maintain.

The purpose of this scope is to provide high quality technical expertise and support to the route strategy Delivery Team for the Delivery of Route Strategies (work packages T0062-65). This is one of a number of work packages being tendered to deliver the route-based strategy programme.
