1415-272 Compton Park & Seward Street Playground Improvement Works

This project involves the redevelopment of Compton Park and Seward Street Playground in the London Borough of Islington. The two spaces are in close proximity to one another, located approximately 175m apart on either side of Goswell Road. Compton Park is bordered by residential estates to the east and to the West. To the South of the site on Compton Street is St Peters and St Pauls primary school as well as mixed residential and office development. Compton Park is currently underused and the purpose to this project is to improve the landscape in the park. Seward Playground is bounded with housing to the east and west and an electrical depot to the south and Seward Street to the north. The site is leased to Dallington Under-fives School. Recently many new homes have been built in the area and funding has been allocated to refurbish the playground for public use whilst Dallington School retain use during the school day. Both hard and soft landscaping improvements based on the JCLI Landscape Works Contract (2012), and the JCLI Landscape Maintenance Works Contract (2012) to cover maintenance during the defects liability period. The landscaping improvement works will include: the removal of hard surfaces refurbishment works to existing park buildings boundaries and fencing installation of bespoke play equipment, and; soft landscaping - including vegetation removal, restorative pruning and the planting of shrubs, herbaceous perennials, bulbs and instant hedging. The intended start date for the programme is December 2015, with completion by March 2016.
