description

Certain sections of our network include single carriageway A-roads, which require an upgrade to improve their safety and operational performance. In some cases, there isn't a strong economic case for providing a GD 300 Level 1 design (dual carriageway with grade separated junctions).

This piece of work, along with potential subsequent phases has the core objective of examining alternative, intermediate, interventions that would consistently work in these locations. It is estimated that up to 27% of the All-purpose trunk road (APTR) network could benefit from such a solution, where traffic flows are below 30,000 Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT).
