description

The core objectives of this service is to provide a range of data and traffic modelling services for Strategy & Planning and other Directorates over the course of four years.

Within the first year, these services explicitly included:

a)To identify recommended improvements to major scheme appraisal suggested by the National Highways programme of Post-Opening Performance Evaluation reports.
b)To develop a tool to support the appraisal of suicide prevention schemes
c)To investigate whether there are carbon emission benefits from smart motorway schemes not accounted for in conventional appraisal methods
d)To investigate the impact on travel demand caused by the continuing trend for home working following the lifting of restrictions to travel by the Government

Within the second year these services will explicitly include:

a)To determine if a method of adding journey time reliability into a small modelled network as an additional "cost" on each road can be achieved.
b)To extend the work carried out under Task 3 of Phase 1, to extend the analysis of Carbon Impacts to provide a more robust assessment
c)To determine the usage of the SRN
d)To investigate the feasibility of modelling braking behaviour on vehicle emissions. It should be noted that this task is included but is reliant on the outcome of task b above, so shouldn't be costed at this time.
