description

Norwich City Council are looking to select a supplier to carry out a feasibility study to establish the magnitude and quality of heat available from the River Wensum in Norwich, and identify any constraints on its utilisation.

The work builds upon a body of work already in place exploring development of a heat network conceived as being fed by a single large heat provider.

Norwich started investigating development of a heat network in earnest in 2009; this work initially grew from a proposal for the construction of a biomass power station in the east of the city centre. In partnership with the prospective power station developer and the Carbon Trust, a consultant (Camco) was commissioned in 2010 to undertake a piece of work with these objectives:

  • Creation of a heat map based upon benchmark and real data
  • Identification of ‘areas of opportunity’ for a heat network
  • Establishment of a detailed business case for the power station / heat

network proposed
