description
Reading Borough Council invites expressions of interest to provide care within seven Extra Care schemes for older people in the Borough. The Council’s focus is on promotion of independence and to prevent, reduce or delay the need for support. We want people to build, recover and retain skills to be able to live as full a life as possible. Our Extra Care schemes will act as hubs within the community for older and vulnerable people to access care and social activities.
The council currently commissions 1719 hours of care within five Extra Care schemes and this is projected to increase as clients with more complex needs are placed there and two new schemes open. Currently the council spends approximately £1.3 million per year on home care within Extra Care Sheltered Housing schemes.
Current provision of Extra Care Housing is focused on 5 buildings with 100% nomination rights held by RBC. These 5 buildings provide 244 units in total. In addition two further schemes are in the process of being constructed and will form part of this estate. These sites under construction will be a mix of leasehold and rental properties. This tender covers 74 council nominated units in these schemes and any council funded care provided within the leasehold units.
The services are to be awarded as four separate lots with different start dates:
Lot 1 - 30/01/2017 Lot 2 - 01/07/2017 Lot 3 - 01/12/2016 Lot 4 - Est. September 2018
Each contract will run for an initial period of four years with the option of a three year extension period.
Invitations to Tender are expected to be issued in the week commencing 27 June. The deadline for submissions of PQQs is 10 June 2016
