We require support on stakeholder management for the Water 2020 programme. This role is to help the programme deliver an overall communications strategy for the Water 2020 that is tailored to individual stakeholders. We are looking for a senior person with good industry knowledge, with an ability to consider how to influence relationships in a strategic context, on the basis of 2 days per week.

Key responsibilities within the programme

  • Develop a good understanding of Ofwat policy and the processes involved within Water 2020. You will be required to liaise with and support senior management, including the programme Senior Responsible Officer (SRO), to understand their perspective and associated requirements. You will be expected to work with the engagement lead to develop a good understanding of what information is available, where it is available and how this could be presented to senior colleagues and potentially even externally to have maximum impact.
  • Oversee the production of high quality material on engagement issues. This could include briefing on the way in which companies are responding to a particular issue (e.g. from the December 2015 consultation document) or it could include briefing on specific policy issues.
  • Develop a good understanding of the key strategic issues of interest to individual companies and other key stakeholders and to work with the engagement lead and where necessary other engagement team members to deliver an overall communications strategy for the Water 2020 that is tailored to individual stakeholders. You will be expected to work with the Water 2020 engagement lead and support them in delivering key messages to Ofwat’s stakeholders.
  • Develop good working relationships with policy colleagues within Ofwat.

Key Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Experience of working across the water sector and/or with other regulators
A good understanding of regulatory concepts as applied to economic regulation
A high level understanding of the political dimensions of operating within a regulatory sector
Experience of building and maintaining positive working relationships with external stakeholders including at a senior level
Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to communicate complex issues both written and oral, to non-specialists.
Understanding of the need for and the application of partnership working.
