Demand on equipment is increasing as a result of the ageing population, user expectations and advances in technology and medical services as well as a move to caring for people more appropriately in their own homes rather than hospitals or care homes.

- Reduce the number of times they have to be admitted to hospital
- Reduce the length of stay in hospital
- Reduce the need for them to move into long-term residential care or nursing homes
- Manage their disabilities in the best way preventing them from deterioration
- Maintain independence
- Reduce the amount of care and support required
